South Lincolnshire Walking Festival 2019

Last weekend was very windy, and on Sunday very wet, but this didn’t deter almost 500 walkers and runners on the Spires & Steeples Challenge and lots more walkers over the weekend attending 13 events.

This weekend we have 11 events for you, ranging from 1 mile to 10.75 miles with RAF100 themed walks and a Railway Ramble. Full details below. We hope you can join us, the forecast is looking better.

A relaxing stroll around a reservoir, along the canal and around two picturesque villages at the edge of the Trent and Belvoir Vales where the land rises to join the Kesteven Uplands and the Leicestershire Wolds.

A LINEAR walk from Bottesford to Grantham along the Grantham Canal.
Take the train from Grantham (9.45am) to Bottesford for a linear walk along the Grantham Canal back to Grantham. Trains dep: Boston 8.50, Heckington 9.04, Sleaford 9.12 and Grantham 9.45 arriving Bottesford 9.56. Train fares apply.

Exploring woodland and open fields, Morkery is a small, peaceful, ancient woodland which was used as an ammunition and bomb store during the Second World War (it was RAF South Witham).

This route takes in four villages with interesting features pointed out along the way. The trail includes part of Lincolnshire’s longest footpath – The Viking Way.
